Growing as an Artist

Before and after cake decorating experience

"Sometimes it is good to look back just to remind yourself how far you've come"

As the 2017 wedding season winds down and I begin planning, booking, and preparing for the 2018 season ahead, I thought it would be neat to share my very first wedding cake I had the honor of making. I was in the middle of pastry school, when my cousin asked if I could make her wedding cake, I was thrilled. I was also clueless without knowing it🤷! I had made a dozen or so custom cakes (let me know if you'd like me to share some of those 🙈), but never anything that was going to need to feed so many people.

I learned so much while making this cake and I wouldn't change it for the world. Of course I look back on it now, and I could critique the heck out of it! (I'm honestly a little anxious sharing it with all of you). But when I completed that first wedding order I was proud, and I am still proud of that ambitious younger version of me. I think it is important to remember that as long as you strive to make each day (or cake in my case) better than the last real measurable growth can happen, even if you don't notice right away. One day you'll step back and be blown away by the progress. The cake on the left was from a stunning wedding at the park side hotel and spa. With five years of experience under my belt I confidently walked into ballroom and set up the cake. With each and every cake I get to make I have the opportunity to learn and grow not only as an artist but as a woman in business. For that I am so unbelievably grateful.

There is always room to grow and improve, and I think that is amazing! I am so excited for another five years to pass to see what my cakes will look like then.

Thank you so much for being a part of my journey 💕
